The PCNL Set is a comprehensive endourology system designed for performing Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy, a minimally invasive procedure used to remove renal calculi. The system provides the instruments required to establish percutaneous access to the kidney and subsequently visualize, fragment and remove stones.

The procedure begins with renal access using a puncture needle and guidewire. Sequential dilators are then used to establish and enlarge the access tract to the required size. A working sheath with an obturator provides a stable pathway for the nephroscope and other instruments.

A rigid nephroscope is introduced through the working sheath to provide direct visualization of the renal collecting system. Compatible instruments can be passed through the working channel for stone fragmentation and extraction.

Depending on the configuration, the PCNL set can be used with laser, pneumatic or ultrasonic lithotripsy systems. Grasping forceps and stone-retrieval baskets can be used to remove fragmented calculi from the renal collecting system.

Different PCNL sets are available in various sizes and configurations, including standard PCNL, mini-PCNL and other reduced-tract systems. Nephroscope diameter, sheath size, dilator sizes, working-channel dimensions and included instruments therefore vary according to the manufacturer and configuration.

The set can be integrated with a complete endourology setup consisting of an endoscopy camera, light source, monitor, irrigation system and lithotripsy equipment.
