Description

The Urethrotome (OIU Set) is a specialized endourology system designed for performing Optical Internal Urethrotomy (OIU) in patients with urethral strictures. It allows the urologist to directly visualize the urethral lumen and make a controlled incision through the narrowed scar tissue.

The system typically consists of a rigid telescope, urethrotome sheath, obturator and working element. A dedicated urethrotomy knife or cold blade is positioned through the working element and used to make the required incision under direct endoscopic visualization.

The optical system provides real-time visualization of the urethral stricture, while the working element allows the operator to control the cutting instrument. Irrigation helps maintain visibility during the procedure.

Depending on the manufacturer and configuration, OIU sets may be supplied with different telescope angles, sheath diameters, working lengths, knife designs and accessories. The exact configuration should therefore be verified for the particular set.

The Urethrotome can be connected to a compatible camera system, light source and medical monitor, forming part of a complete urological endoscopy setup.

It is primarily used for optical internal urethrotomy, treatment of urethral strictures and selected minimally invasive urethral procedures.
